UPDATE: Owl Kicker To Get Jail Time

Luis Moreno, the defender for Deportivo Pereira of Colombia's Primara A who kicked an opposing club's pet owl off the field on Sunday, could get up to three months of jail time for the incident. The owl was treated for traumatic stress at Zoosalud veterinary clinic in Barranquilla, Colombia, but died early this morning of respiratory arrest. Authorities intend to press charges on Moreno; according to a Bogotá radio station, "current animal protection laws allow the player to be jailed for 'one to three months and be fined between 5,000 to 50,000 pesos ($2.60 to $26).'"

When this Colombian woke up that morning I bet he never thought, "I might go to jail for booting an owl in the face in the middle of the game."  I fancy myself a betting man and it's safe to say that going to jail for a death kick to an owl is the most inconcievable reason for jailtime.  That fine could really leave a dent in his wallet, too.   I see those pesos are really keeping their value in today's global economy.
